Definitions

Assessed: The fines and fees, set by state law, which are ordered to be paid by a court or required to be paid upon the filing of certain documents in a civil case.
Case Category:   A grouping of individual case types into a  single category such as civil, felony, misdemeanor, or infraction.  The case categories that apply to criminal cases (felony, misdemeanor, and infraction) are assigned at the time of disposition or filing.  When cases have charges with multiple degrees, the highest degree is assigned as the case category.
Civil Case Filing Types: Civil cases can be further grouped by the following filing types: Family, Probate or Mental Health, or Civil.
Civil Action: A court action where one person sues another for a harm, injury, or loss caused by the other. Some examples of civil actions are: breach of contract, custody disputes, and property damage.
Criminal Action: A court action where the state prosecutes a person who is charged with committing a public offense or crime. The penalties can be fines, imprisonment, or both.
Default Judgment: A binding judgment based on some failure to take action by a party to the case.
Delinquent Debt: A debt owed to the court that is not paid according to the terms of the judgment or a payment agreement between the court and the debtor.
Distributions: The process of distributing the money collected in fines and fees as required by law. The Idaho courts collect fines and fees and provide the money to the counties, along with direction on how to properly distribute the collected amounts. Counties are responsible for the actual distribution of moneys paid to the local court.
Fee: Amounts that the clerk of the district court is required to collect by law in performing the duties required of a district court clerk. I.C. §§ 31-3201, 31-3201A, Chapter 32 Title 31, Idaho Code.
Felony: A crime which is punishable with death or by imprisonment in the state prison.
Fine: An amount set by law as the penalty for violation of a public offense or crime.  The amount of a fine may be a fixed penalty, as with infractions, or may not be a fixed amount, as with most crimes. When the fine is not a fixed amount, the court has a duty to determine the punishment per I.C. § 18-106.
Fiscal Year: The state's fiscal year is the one year period that runs from July 1st of one year to June 30th of the next year.
Imposed: The penalties and fines that a judge orders a defendant responsible to pay at the time of sentencing, per I.C. § 18-106. A fine may be simply imposed, or imposed and suspended.  If a fine, or a portion thereof, is imposed and suspended, the person will not have to pay it unless the court later requires them to.  A court will sometimes suspend a fine while a person is on probation and only order the fine paid if the person violates the terms of their probation.
Infraction: A civil public offense, not constituting a crime, which is  not punishable by incarceration and for which there is no right to a trial by jury or right to court-appointed counsel, and which is punishable by only a penalty not exceeding three hundred dollars and no imprisonment.
Judgment: The court's written decision in which a person is found guilty of a crime or infraction and punishment is imposed.
Judicial District: Idaho counties are divided into 7 judicial districts. Each district court is given jurisdiction to hear cases within its district.
Misdemeanor: Any crime that is not a felony.
Tax Intercept Program: A program in which a person's tax return from the state is intercepted and used as an offset against certain debts owed by the person. The courts, like other entities, utilize  it to collect delinquent debts owed by the taxpayer pursuant to I.C. § 1-1624
