How Do The Courts Use Payment Plans?

For some fees and fines owed, the courts are permitted to enter into payment plan agreements with people who cannot reasonably afford to settle the debt in a single payment. These payment plans are customized by the courts, with payment due dates and amounts tailored to the situation.
These payment plans keep the debt from being considered delinquent only if all scheduled payments are up to date. If a person misses a monthly payment, the debt will be considered delinquent until it is paid - even if the person pays future installments on time.
Judges and other court personnel are never obligated to enter into these agreements and use their discretion based on individual circumstances to decide if one is warranted.
Please Note: Variation in local practices may result in minor discrepancies in data.
